OVERVIEW

A restored bog-iron and industrial community built by James Allaire in the early 1800s, once home to hundreds of workers; the furnace closed in 1846 and the site is now a living-history museum in Allaire State Park.

REPORTED ACTIVITY

Volunteers and visitors report flickering lights, cold spots, faces in windows of the "Big House," and figures linked in lore to the Allaire family; the village runs seasonal ghost tours.

VISITING

Open to the public as a living-history museum within a state park.
