Hotel Meade (Bannack State Park)
FOLLOWBannack, MT
DIRECTIONS →OVERVIEW
Bannack was founded in 1862 after gold was found on Grasshopper Creek and briefly served as Montana's first territorial capital. The building now known as Hotel Meade was raised in 1875 as the Beaverhead County courthouse, then remodeled into a hotel around 1890; the whole town is preserved as a state park with more than 50 standing structures.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
Bannack is among Montana's most-reported haunted sites. Visitors most often describe Dorothy Dunn, a girl said to have drowned nearby in 1916 and reportedly seen in a blue dress at the Hotel Meade's windows; others report footsteps and apparitions throughout the town.
VISITING
Open to the public as Bannack State Park; the town hosts guided and living-history events.
