OVERVIEW

A roughly 100-square-mile forested area around Glastenbury Mountain, bounded by Glastenbury, Woodford, and Bennington. Between 1945 and 1950 several people vanished here, most famously Bennington College student Paula Welden in 1946; author Joseph Citro coined the name "Bennington Triangle" in 1992.

REPORTED ACTIVITY

The disappearances of guide Middie Rivers, Paula Welden, James Tedford, and others were never fully explained; the largely bodiless cases have made the area a long-studied historical mystery.

VISITING

Remote hiking country, including the Long Trail; prepare carefully for backcountry conditions.
