DIRECTIONS →OVERVIEW
On the night of September 19–20, 1961, Portsmouth couple Betty and Barney Hill reported a close encounter with a craft while driving south on U.S. Route 3 near Franconia Notch, followed by roughly two hours of unaccounted time; a state historical marker stands near Lincoln.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
Under later hypnosis the Hills described being taken aboard and examined; the case, detailed in the book and film "The Interrupted Journey," became a template for modern abduction accounts.
VISITING
The roadside marker on U.S. Route 3 is publicly accessible.
