OVERVIEW

Erected in 1848, the Biloxi Lighthouse was among the first cast-iron lighthouses in the South and was tended for 53 years by keeper Maria Younghans, one of several women who kept the light; it has withstood numerous major hurricanes.

REPORTED ACTIVITY

Local maritime legend tells of a spectral lantern-bearing figure and an unexplained blue light reported over Biloxi Bay, tied to long-running "Firewater Ghost" lore among Gulf Coast sailors.
