OVERVIEW

A prominent bluff above the Missouri River on the Omaha Reservation in northeastern Nebraska, the revered burial place of Chief Blackbird and other Omaha leaders, noted by explorers including Lewis and Clark and writer Washington Irving.

REPORTED ACTIVITY

A settler-era legend holds that a woman was killed here in a jealous attack; folklore says her scream can be heard along the bluff each year on October 17. The site is culturally significant to the Omaha people and should be treated with respect.
