OVERVIEW

Church Street Graveyard, Mobile's main cemetery from 1819 to 1898, is the burial site of Charles Boyington, executed in 1835 for the murder of his roommate Nathaniel Frost despite maintaining his innocence.

REPORTED ACTIVITY

Boyington reportedly predicted an oak would grow from his heart as proof of innocence, and a live oak did grow from the potter's field grave; two other men reportedly gave deathbed confessions to the killing in later years.

VISITING

The graveyard and oak are publicly accessible in downtown Mobile.
