OVERVIEW

One of the oldest houses in the Charleston area, built around 1730 on Johns Island by the Fenwick family, prominent in colonial horse racing. The estate has passed through many hands and survived war, storms, and long neglect.

REPORTED ACTIVITY

A durable legend tells of the planter's daughter Ann and a groom named Tony, said to have been hanged for their forbidden romance; visitors report a headless rider crossing the marsh and figures of a couple beneath the drive's old oaks.
