FOLLOWCharleston, SC
DIRECTIONS →OVERVIEW
Completed in 1808 for merchant Nathaniel Russell, this Meeting Street house is one of the finest neoclassical homes in America, known for its cantilevered "free-flying" three-story staircase and geometric rooms. The Russells moved in with eighteen enslaved people who ran the household.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
The house has a long-standing reputation among tour guides and visitors for figures glimpsed in empty rooms and activity reported around the great staircase.
