The Powder Magazine
FOLLOWCharleston, SC
DIRECTIONS →OVERVIEW
Built in 1713 just inside Charleston's old northern wall, this squat, thick-walled magazine stored the colony's gunpowder through the Revolutionary War. Saved from demolition in 1902 by the Colonial Dames, it is the oldest public building in the Carolinas and now a small museum.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
Reports include footsteps, scraping sounds, and movement inside after hours; local legend links an apparition to pirate Anne Bonny, said to appear here and at the nearby Pink House.
VISITING
Open to the public as a museum.
