OVERVIEW

The public park at the southern tip of the peninsula, bordered by the Battery seawall promenade. In the autumn of 1718, the "gentleman pirate" Stede Bonnet and dozens of his fellow pirates were hanged here at White Point and buried in the marsh below the low-water mark. It became a landscaped park in 1837.

REPORTED ACTIVITY

Legend holds that the spirits of the executed pirates, Bonnet among them, linger at the point; visitors report shadowy figures near the seawall and oaks after dark.
