Coyne Helicopter UFO Incident Site (Charles Mill Lake)
FOLLOWMansfield, OH
DIRECTIONS →OVERVIEW
On the night of October 18, 1973, an Army Reserve helicopter crew led by Captain Lawrence Coyne was flying near Charles Mill Lake north of Mansfield when a fast-moving light approached on a collision course.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
The crew described a roughly 60-foot cigar-shaped craft with red, white, and green lights that hovered over the helicopter and reportedly caused an uncommanded altitude change; ground witnesses nearby corroborated unusual lights the same night, and the case was later cited by the Center for UFO Studies as among the most credible of 1973.
VISITING
The lake and surrounding park land are publicly accessible; the airspace is not marked.
