Cuesta de las Cañas

OVERVIEW

A steep stretch of the Antigua road through Santa Lucía Milpas Altas, on the ridge between the capital and the old city. It is an ordinary highway grade with a bad accident record.

HISTORY

The road follows the colonial route between the two capitals; the modern highway was cut through in the twentieth century.

REPORTED ACTIVITY

The Dama de Blanco — a woman in a white wedding dress seen at the roadside at night, who vanishes when the driver looks again or stops. The account is Guatemala's version of the vanishing-hitchhiker story and is told by drivers on this road specifically; it is recorded in Guatemalan guides to the country's haunted places. No individual sighting is documented.
