Ex-Convento del Desierto de los Leones
FOLLOWMexico City, CMX
DIRECTIONS →OVERVIEW
A Discalced Carmelite monastery set in dense forest west of Mexico City, occupied by the order for roughly two centuries and now the centrepiece of Desierto de los Leones National Park, surrounded by gardens and a network of underground passages.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
Visitors report hooded, barefoot figures, furniture moving at night in the refectory and dormitories, and lights switching on and off on their own. The unlit basement tunnels — used to hold prisoners and, by local account, the dead after the monastery's religious use ended — are the focus of most reports.
VISITING
Open to the public as a museum within the national park.
