HAUNTING / GHOSTMassacre 4 February 1880Private farm / museumRESTRICTEDDOCUMENTEDLEGEND

OVERVIEW

The farm of an Irish immigrant family settled near Lucan in the 1840s, where on 4 February 1880 a vigilante mob killed James Donnelly, his wife Johannah, their son Tom and their niece Bridget, then burned the house; two trials produced no conviction despite an eyewitness. Surviving family rebuilt on the site in 1881.

REPORTED ACTIVITY

Visitors and owners of the rebuilt house have reported apparitions and unexplained incidents in the original section, and local lore holds that horses will not travel the Roman Line on the anniversary nights of 3–4 February.

VISITING

A private property operated periodically for tours; the Donnelly graves are at nearby St. Patrick's Cemetery.
