OVERVIEW
A small settlement in the Cornwall hills founded in the 1740s, home to a handful of farming families including several named Dudley; poor soil, isolation, and a lack of clean water drove residents away by the early 20th century, leaving only cellar holes and stone walls.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
Since the mid-20th century, popular legend has linked the abandoned village to a "curse" supposedly following the Dudley family from Tudor England, citing residents' reported misfortunes, insanity, and disappearances; historians and local societies have publicly disputed the curse story as a later fabrication with no genealogical basis, while visitors continue to report unease and unexplained sounds in the woods.
