DIRECTIONS →No public access. Do not trespass: it is illegal and can be dangerous.
OVERVIEW
Opened in 1913 as the Eastern Hospital for the Insane on land donated by the city of Vinita, the facility grew to house thousands of patients over its history before gradual downsizing led to its closure in 2008; the grounds include an on-site cemetery for patients with largely lost burial records.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
Former employees and visitors report unexplained sounds and sightings throughout the long-vacant wards, and the poorly documented patient cemetery has become a focus of local ghost lore.
VISITING
The former hospital grounds are not generally open to the public; the site is now state-owned.
