DIRECTIONS →OVERVIEW
Flathead Lake, in northwest Montana, is the largest natural freshwater lake in the western U.S. and reaches roughly 370 feet deep. Since a documented 1889 report by the crew and passengers of the steamboat U.S. Grant, more than a hundred sightings of a large, eel- or serpent-like creature have been recorded and cataloged locally.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
Boaters and shoreline witnesses periodically report a large dark shape or humps moving through the water; the legend has become a fixture of area culture.
VISITING
The lake and its public shorelines are open to visitors.
