FOLLOWCaracas Bay, Curaçao
DIRECTIONS →OVERVIEW
Built in 1703 to defend the approach to Spanish Water, Fort Beekenburg saw action against the French in 1713 and against English privateers later. Its round tower and gun platform survive on the headland.
HISTORY
The fort is among the best preserved of the island's many coastal defences.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
The tower carries local reports of figures on the platform after dark. Anecdotal.
VISITING
Freely accessible; the structure is unrestored and the footing is poor.
