Iverson's Pits
FOLLOWGettysburg, PA
DIRECTIONS →OVERVIEW
A field on the Forney farm below Oak Ridge where, on July 1, 1863, Alfred Iverson's North Carolina brigade advanced without skirmishers into a concealed Union volley; hundreds were killed almost where they stood and buried in shallow trenches.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
Among Gettysburg's oldest hauntings: postwar farmhands are said to have refused to work the field after dark, and visitors report voices, a sense of dread, and figures in the low ground.
VISITING
