OVERVIEW

A 39-room Jacobean-style estate built between 1905 and 1908 for attorney and industrialist Chester Congdon and his family, set on the Lake Superior shore. Donated to the University of Minnesota, it opened as a museum in 1979. In 1977, heiress Elisabeth Congdon and her nurse Velma Pietila were murdered here; the estate now discusses that history openly on tours while keeping its focus on the family and the house's full story.

REPORTED ACTIVITY

Some visitors describe unexplained sensations and sounds, and the mansion appears in regional paranormal writing; the estate itself presents Glensheen primarily as a historic home rather than a paranormal attraction.

VISITING

Open to the public for guided historic tours.
