CRYPTIDLegend since 1971Cryptid legend / folkloreDOCUMENTEDLEGEND

OVERVIEW

An urban legend of a goat-human hybrid said to haunt the woods around Bowie and Fletchertown Road, popularized after October 1971 articles in the Prince George's County News and a follow-up in the Washington Post. One origin tale links it to a scientist at the nearby Beltsville Agricultural Research Center.

REPORTED ACTIVITY

The legend spread from University of Maryland folklore archives into local newspapers; reported "sightings" and blamed animal deaths kept it alive as a regional campfire story.
