OVERVIEW

Eunice "Goody" Cole was tried and convicted of witchcraft in Hampton in 1656 and imprisoned for years; she died around 1680. In 1938 the town symbolically cleared her name, and a memorial stone was later placed on the grounds of the Tuck Museum.

REPORTED ACTIVITY

Local legend holds that a stake was driven into her grave to bind her spirit; her figure is said to appear around old Hampton, and the museum keeps material tied to her memory.

VISITING

The Tuck Museum and its grounds are open to the public.
