DIRECTIONS →OVERVIEW
A wooded archaeological site featuring stone chambers, walls, and a double circle of large stone slabs; excavations have found Native American artifacts up to 4,000 years old alongside colonial-period farmstead remains, and the property was named a Connecticut State Archaeological Preserve in 2023.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
The age and purpose of the stone chambers remain debated: mainstream archaeologists generally attribute most structures to 17th- and 18th-century colonial farming and root-cellar use, while some researchers and visitors have speculated about pre-colonial or transatlantic origins; hikers also report compass malfunctions and unexplained sounds near the stone circle.
VISITING
Open to hikers via the Bindman Preserve trails, maintained with the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center; some interior sections are gated.
