Hill View Manor

OVERVIEW

A large institutional building on Route 65 south of New Castle, opened in 1926 as the Lawrence County Home for the Aged — the county poorhouse, taking the indigent, the elderly and the mentally ill — and later the Hill View Manor nursing home. It closed in 2004 and was bought privately; it is operated as a paranormal attraction with public and private investigations and has appeared on Ghost Adventures and Ghost Hunters.

HISTORY

Residents who died there with no family were buried in the grounds. The building's history is that of the county's care of its poor for most of a century.

REPORTED ACTIVITY

The venue's own accounts and the television episodes describe voices, footsteps, a boy on the stairs and figures in the wards. The entry records that the reputation exists and where it comes from; the venue has an interest in it.
