OVERVIEW

Established in 1820 at the confluence of the Minnesota and Mississippi rivers, Fort Snelling was the region's first permanent U.S. military outpost and is now a restored historic site operated by the Minnesota Historical Society, interpreting a complex history that includes its role in the Dakota and enslaved-people's stories.

REPORTED ACTIVITY

The fort appears in Minnesota paranormal literature, with visitors and investigators reporting apparitions, footsteps, and voices; some accounts single out the chapel and older stone structures.
