OVERVIEW

A 19th-century garden cemetery overlooking the James River, the burial site of two U.S. presidents and many Confederate soldiers and officials, including a large pyramid memorial to Confederate war dead.

REPORTED ACTIVITY

The cemetery is best known for the "Richmond Vampire" legend surrounding the mausoleum of W. W. Pool, tied to a 1925 tunnel collapse; visitors also report voices near the pyramid and a cast-iron dog said to guard a child's grave.
