Mark Twain House
FOLLOWHartford, CT
DIRECTIONS →OVERVIEW
A Gothic Revival mansion built in 1874 for Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) and his family, where Twain wrote several of his best-known works before financial troubles forced the family to leave in 1891; it now operates as a museum and National Historic Landmark.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
Staff and visitors have reported the smell of cigar smoke in rooms where Twain wrote, a "lady in white" apparition believed linked to his daughter Susy (who died of meningitis in the house in 1896), and instances of clothing being tugged; the property has been investigated on camera by paranormal research teams.
