OVERVIEW

On February 5, 1924, a shaft collapse flooded the Milford Mine on the Cuyuna Iron Range, killing 41 miners in the worst mining accident in Minnesota history; only seven men escaped. Crow Wing County developed the site into a memorial park, opening interpretive trails, kiosks, and a memorial wall in 2016.

REPORTED ACTIVITY

Visitors and investigators sometimes report sensing a presence at the site, attributed to the miners who died there; the park is maintained primarily as a place of remembrance and history.

VISITING

Open to the public as a county memorial park with trails and interpretive exhibits.
