OVERVIEW
A Beaux-Arts theatre on 12th Avenue in Altoona built by the impresario Isaac C. Mishler and opened in February 1906; it burned that October and reopened, rebuilt, in January 1907. It is on the National Register and is run by the Blair County Arts Foundation as a working theatre.
HISTORY
A stop on the vaudeville circuits between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia; saved from demolition in the 1960s by the foundation.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
Staff and performers report the smell of cigar smoke, a figure in the house seats and doors that open on their own, and attribute them to Mishler, who kept a close eye on his theatre in life. The foundation tells the story on its tours.
