FOLLOWZaleski, OH
DIRECTIONS →OVERVIEW
A 160-foot brick tunnel built in 1856 for the Marietta & Cincinnati Railroad through the hills of Vinton County, serving the coal-mining town of Moonville until the last residents left in 1947; the tunnel and a cemetery are all that remain.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
Local research has documented more than twenty deaths along the line; legends describe four recurring apparitions, including a decapitated brakeman said to swing a lantern in the tunnel.
VISITING
The tunnel and rail-trail are open to the public within Zaleski State Forest.
