OVERVIEW
Built in 1776 for Deacon Richard Hale, father of executed Revolutionary War spy Nathan Hale, the homestead was completed the same year Nathan was hanged in New York and so he never lived in it; it is preserved today by Connecticut Landmarks.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
Visitors and staff report the apparition of Deacon Hale in colonial dress, a woman in white believed to be a household servant seen sweeping, and the sound of chains rattling in the basement associated with Nathan's brother Joseph, who was held on a British prison ship.
