OVERVIEW
A distinctive French Second Empire–style lighthouse built in 1909 at the mouth of New London Harbor on the Thames River, automated in 1987 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
Former Coast Guard crews reported knocking on their cabin doors at night, a television switching on and off, and bedcovers being pulled away, attributing the activity to a keeper nicknamed "Ernie" said to have died at the lighthouse decades earlier; two self-described psychics conducted a widely reported attempt to "release" the spirit in 1981.
VISITING
Visible from New London Harbor cruises and the waterfront; the lighthouse itself is reachable only by boat and is not generally open for walk-in tours.
