The Old U.S. Mint
FOLLOWNew Orleans, LA
DIRECTIONS →OVERVIEW
Opened in 1838, this is the only building to have served as both a U.S. and a Confederate mint; after the Union recapture of New Orleans in 1862 it became notorious as the site of the execution of William Mumford, and it now houses a state museum and jazz collection.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
Staff over the years have reported footsteps and voices in empty galleries; some accounts tie the activity to the 1862 execution on the building's exterior.
VISITING
Open to the public as a museum.
