OVERVIEW
Opened in 1912 as Minnesota's first tuberculosis sanatorium — "Nopeming" is an Ojibwe word rendered as "in the woods" — the complex later became a St. Louis County nursing home and closed in 2002. Many patients died here across its decades of operation.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
The site has been investigated on shows including Ghost Adventures and Destination Fear; visitors report cold spots, whispers, and shadow figures in the corridors. Ghost tours ran under private ownership until safety concerns halted them.
