OVERVIEW
Mary Wallace (1720–1814), said to have been born aboard a ship spared by a pirate on the condition the baby be named for his mother, spent her final years in Henniker; a local house marketed as hers drew tourists in the early 1900s, though historians note she never actually lived in it.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
Legend describes Mary's spirit and buried pirate treasure on the grounds; the tales were heavily promoted by a 1900s owner and are widely regarded as embellished folklore.
