OVERVIEW
Built in 1719 and expanded through the 18th century, the Old Gaol held prisoners for 160 years and is preserved today as part of the Museums of Old York, one of the oldest English colonial buildings still standing in the United States.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
Staff and visitors report moans and cold, oppressive sensations inside the cell block, popularly attributed to the restless spirit of convicted 18th-century prisoner Patience Boston; a separate local legend describes a "White Witch" seen wandering the surrounding village.
VISITING
Open seasonally to the public as a museum with guided tours.
