OVERVIEW

Built around 1757 on land granted to French colonist Joseph Simon dit La Pointe, the house is the oldest scientifically confirmed standing structure on the U.S. Gulf Coast and the only surviving French colonial-era building in Mississippi; its name comes from a later Spanish-era resident, though it was a fortified home rather than a true fort.

REPORTED ACTIVITY

Long local tradition holds the site and surrounding grounds to be haunted, consistent with its use as a cemetery and family homestead across more than two centuries.
