Paulding Light
FOLLOWPaulding, MI
DIRECTIONS →OVERVIEW
An unexplained light phenomenon first widely reported in 1966 near Paulding in the Upper Peninsula, visible most nights from a roadside valley overlook off old US-45.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
Local legend attributes the light to a railroad brakeman's ghost lantern; 1990 and 2010 investigations, including one by Michigan Tech students, concluded the light is refracted vehicle headlights from a distant highway, though the sightings and debate continue.
VISITING
A public roadside pull-off, popular after dark; no facilities on site.
