OVERVIEW
Built around 1780 by William Eden using enslaved labour, the great house is the islands' oldest standing structure. In 1831 a meeting here elected the first Caymanian legislature, and the 1835 declaration ending slavery in the islands was read at the site. It was restored in the 1990s after fire and hurricane damage.
HISTORY
The house has been a courthouse, a jail, a parliament and a private home in turn.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
Staff have reported footsteps on the upper floor and doors moving without draught. The reports are anecdotal and the site does not market itself on them.
