DIRECTIONS →OVERVIEW
A working lighthouse built in 1827 on dramatic layered rock ledges on the midcoast, one of the most-photographed lighthouses in the country and depicted on Maine's state quarter.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
Visitors and keepers have reported a woman in a red shawl appearing wet and distressed near the keeper's house fireplace, and a spectral fisherman on the rocks below who vanishes on approach, leaving the smell of pipe tobacco.
VISITING
The grounds and keeper's house museum are open to the public; the tower is a working aid to navigation.
