OVERVIEW

A large stone mansion on Mermaid Lane in Chestnut Hill, long owned by the Easby family, descendants of Civil War General George Meade; its longtime resident George Meade Easby spent decades cataloguing the family's art and antiques.

REPORTED ACTIVITY

Easby popularized the house's reputation, describing a ghost he called "Amanda" and a chair said to bring misfortune to those who sat in it; it is often cited in paranormal media as one of America's most haunted homes.

VISITING

A private residence, not open to the public; view from public streets only.
