Redbank Range Tunnel
FOLLOWPicton, NSW
DIRECTIONS →OVERVIEW
Cut in 1867 for the Main Southern railway and bypassed in 1919, the tunnel was later used as a mushroom farm and an emergency store. It is now council-managed and open to visitors.
HISTORY
In 1916 a local woman, Emily Bollard, was struck and killed by a train near the tunnel — the death most often attached to the site.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
The tunnel is one of the most-reported sites in New South Wales, with accounts of lights and a figure inside. Picton markets itself on this reputation.
VISITING
Accessible; tours run periodically. The tunnel floods and is dark throughout.
