OVERVIEW
A tall, square Jacobean house with four corner towers beside the A541 between Mold and Wrexham, built about 1610 for Sir John Trevor, Secretary to the Navy, and lived in by Trevors for three centuries. It was requisitioned in the Second World War, sold for demolition in the 1950s and saved by preservation orders; Cornelia Bayley bought the ruin in 1986 and restored it, and opened it to tours, weddings and ghost evenings. It is the most-visited 'most haunted house in Wales'.
HISTORY
Flintshire's folklore is thick with grey ladies; Plas Teg's is said to be a Trevor daughter who died on the night of a forbidden elopement, and the house has stories of a hanged servant and a room no dog will enter. Most Haunted filmed here in 2004; Girls Aloud were put through it for television in 2006.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
The Grey Lady on the road, seen by drivers who have braked for her; figures on the great staircase; noises in the upper rooms. The owner told the stories willingly and the Daily Post has reported them for years. They are the house's tradition and are entered as such.
VISITING
Open on set days and for booked tours and events; check before travelling. The A541 is a fast road with no footway.
