DIRECTIONS →OVERVIEW
Gold was found here in 1868 and Ravenswood grew to around 5,000 people with dozens of hotels. The ore proved difficult to treat, the field declined, and the town emptied. A small population remains among the surviving brick hotels and mine headframes.
HISTORY
The Imperial Hotel and the Railway Hotel both survive from the boom years.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
The surviving hotels are reported locally as haunted, and the town's emptiness does much of the work. Reports are anecdotal.
VISITING
Open town; the hotels operate. The mullock heaps and shafts around it are dangerous.
