Red Onion Saloon
FOLLOWSkagway, AK
DIRECTIONS →OVERVIEW
Opened in 1898 as a saloon with an upstairs bordello serving Klondike Gold Rush stampeders, the Red Onion is a National Historic Landmark whose second floor is preserved as a brothel museum with its original cribs intact.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
Staff and visitors describe footsteps overhead when the upper floor is empty, drifting perfume, and dampened soil in plant pots that no one has watered, activity many attribute to a spirit called "Lydia," said to be one of the women who once worked there.
VISITING
An operating saloon and restaurant with guided brothel-museum tours of the upper floor.
