DIRECTIONS →OVERVIEW
Founded in 1876 by Benedictine monks as the first Catholic mission, school, and convent for the Potawatomi in Indian Territory, Sacred Heart grew into a large complex before a fire on the night of January 15, 1901, destroyed nearly every building, leaving only a log cabin and stone bakery standing.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
Visitors to the ruins and adjoining cemetery report unexplained figures and sounds among the old foundations, which locals connect to the mission's sudden and devastating loss.
