OVERVIEW

A Derby Street building that operated as a funeral home and, during Prohibition, as a clandestine speakeasy said to serve liquor in the basement embalming room, giving the "Bunghole" its name. It became one of Salem's first legal liquor stores after Prohibition ended in 1933.

REPORTED ACTIVITY

Employees have long reported unexplained sounds, moving objects, and a sense of being watched when working alone after dark in the basement.

Open to the public as a retail store.
