OVERVIEW

A 1770 house at 53 Charter Street, once home to Dr. Nathaniel Peabody and his daughters. Nathaniel Hawthorne courted his future wife Sophia Peabody here in the 1830s, and the house lent its name to his unfinished work "Dr. Grimshawe's Secret." It sits directly beside the Old Burying Point.

REPORTED ACTIVITY

Its gothic appearance and cemetery-side location have drawn persistent ghost lore; passersby report figures at the windows.

VISITING
