Sam Lord's Castle
FOLLOWLong Bay, Saint Philip
DIRECTIONS →No public access. Do not trespass: it is illegal and can be dangerous.

OVERVIEW
Built in 1820 by Samuel Hall Lord, the house was celebrated for its plasterwork ceilings and mahogany. It later became a hotel and was destroyed by fire in 2010; the site has since been redeveloped.
HISTORY
Lord's legend — that he hung lanterns in coconut trees to lure ships onto Cobbler's Reef — is repeated everywhere on the island and supported by no contemporary evidence.
REPORTED ACTIVITY
The house was long reported as haunted, and the wrecking legend is inseparable from that reputation. Both belong to folklore rather than to the record.
VISITING
The original house is gone. Recorded here for the folklore attached to the site.
